OVERALL!?! - Pherene is a flight risk, at best. Her fickleness is rooted in her ever need for change. If left stagnant for too long, she can become restless and quite pissy. She needs vibrancy and diversity in almost everything she does. For instance, if cooped up in the castle for too long she must go out and take a walk in the gardens or ride a horse. Like her sister, she often feels suffocated by the constraints society puts on her gender. She struggles against being dependent on any one person. So the thought ofbeing in a binding contract of dependence withmarrying a man she barely knows is something that greatly perturbs her. Ever since a young age, Phererne displayed signs of independence. She rarely was the quiet or bashful child and would willingly run – head first – into any sort of situation. And as a child, Pherene would hide out with a book in odd places in the palace to simply get away from it all. Similar to her lack of desiring to be dependent, she doesn’t take well to authority. Pherene likes her space and not being told what to do. Much rather would she learn from her own mistakes than be lectured. After living in such a mindset for the greater part of twenty years, it is no secret that she is slighted to demand independence.
Though she has well-formed people skills, Pherene is quite the introvert and doesn’t often enjoy the company of others. She is very capable of being one of the charming Ladies of Ostlea but instead prefers to make life interesting. Depending on her mood or how entertaining the conversation or person is, she can be either wonderfully pleasant or caustically bitter. As a general rule, she doesn’t like people. Indeed it has happened in the past where certain individuals are interesting enough to admire. But, for the most part, Pherene has no hope in the human race. In particular, certain types of people that push her buttons more than the rest are the: overly happy ones, the ones that talk too much, the ones that don’t know when to leave you alone, and the ones with which you cannot hold a proper conversation. It's strikingly difficult to please her; there aren’t many things that sincerely spark Pherene’s interest and, because of her brutal honesty, she is often viewed as cold and aloof. On a similar note, in conversation, it is rare for her to tell a lie. There is no sugar-coating anything Pherene says and it isn’t uncommon for her to come off as abrasive because of it. Often her opinions are disputed, and she usually she stands her ground. As stubborn as a mule, she isn’t afraid to speak her mind and be bold. Her over-bounding confidence can sometimes be suffocating to the point where it passes as arrogance. Regardless of her true lack of self-worth, the Lady plays it off as if she loves who she is.

EYES!?! - almond-shaped, icy sapphire eyes framed in brunette lashes of average length
HAIR!?! - light golden-brown tousled tresses that go to her elbows
FACE!?! - round face with piercing eyes and pouty lips.
BODY!?! - tall and lanky with minimal curves, and bordering awkward and gangly
UNUSUAL!?! - a simple scar on her upper arm from falling off a horse when she was young
OVERALL!?! - The physical things that are usually first noticed about Pherene are her height and her cold, cerulean eyes. Standing at 5'10", it is rare to see her expression displaying anything other than a deer in the head lights look or a sneer-glare hybrid. When you find her round face smiling, more often than not it's a cheeky grin as opposed to an genuine smile. Throughout the year, Pherene's skin it a shade of alabaster. If out on the sun too long, she easily becomes burnt but does not tan. She is fairly lean and doesn’t have the hips or the bust to be entitled “curvy." Thus, she holds close to her heart garments that can make her look as such. Like her sister, she admires deep and rich emerald, ruby, and sapphire colors. Much to her greatest displeasure, she looks best in a vibrant turquoise. She tries to avoid bright colors at all costs but is sometimes forced into them by her sisters. She has a rich taste, like most royals, and is slighted to fine fabrics of the muted-pattern variety. Preferring to dress herself in garments with interesting cuts, shapes, and necklines, as opposed to intricate patterns.
MOTHER!?! - Queen Genevra, deceased, late queen.
FATHER!?! - King Ferdinand, deceased, late king.
SIBLINGS!?! - King Cyprian, 23, king of Ostlea
Lady Ysadora, 30, royal
Lady Astrid, 17, royal
Princess Celandine, 11, royal princess
IMPORTANT!?! - Helena Mitthony, deceased, lady in waiting
FINALLY!?! - Pherene’s mother, Genevra, was the third wife of King Ferdinand. Genevra and Ferdinand had a quiet – almost secretive – wedding on the heels of the second queen’s death. Not long after their wedding, Genevra became pregnant. She had quite the calm pregnancy, despite Pherene’s incessant movement in the later months. Expected to come in early to mid January, Pherene surprised the castle when she arrived on December 22nd. She was named in honor of Ferdinand’s late mother – renewed for her beauty but it was said not a nastier woman drew breath. Throughout their short marriage, Ferdinand and Genevra experienced moments of peace but Ferdinand was not fond of Genevra’s inability to play the role of submissive wife. Genevra grew up a free and independent woman and refused to surrender to commands that went against her beliefs. She was also said to have quite the temper, resulting in numerous political enemies. It was safe to say that Genevra did not fit the role of a pleasant queen; this caused friction in their relationship. After many fights and a miscarriage of a son, Ferdinand deemed her unfit to be his wife. Ferdinand let rumors fly that that she was guilty of treasonable adultery. Despite her feistiness, she was a devoted and true wife. However, Genevra’s opposing voice was one against many. After less than two years of marriage – when Pherene was only a year old – Genevra was executed by sword on thefalsepremise of being a treacherous queen.
This left Pherene as a bastard princess with an eternal string of ladies in waiting to tend to her needs. More often than not, Pherene’s caretakers would not last a year. The queens preceding Genevra took not much interest in Pherene as she was a “troubled child” and a “nightmare” to look after. When she was six there was a particular lady in waiting going by the name of Helena who had an odd determination to be different than the rest. Pherene respected her ambition but kept true to turbulent nature. It took quite some time but Pherene grew to respect her. Helena was the first to not treat her as a spoiled child. Instead, she forced Pherene to work for what she wanted. (If she wanted to go for a walk in the gardens, she must first finish her studies.) Helena was resolute and taught Pherene many things during her time in the castle. Once able to read, Pherene spent the majority of her childhood pouring over novels of all sorts. Her most favorite genre, nevertheless, was adventure. It did not take much for Pherene to want to experience for herself the same ventures as the heroes and heroines in her books. Helena, then, would allow her out to the stables a few times a week to learn to ride. By the age of twelve, she was incredibly skilled in her horsemanship. Before then, however, after five years of service Helena was dismissed by Ferdinand for spying. At the time, Pherene was out at the stables for one of her lessons from the head groom. When she came back, she had come to find that Helena was gone. As it was her nature, Pherene went straight to her father and demand for her back. The king shouted, “You should be grateful that I did not execute her!” Pherene, with hot tears of anger leaving trails down her reddened cheeks, roared back at her father, “Where is she?!” Shaking his head, seeing so much of his third wife in his daughter, Ferdinand replied simply, “Gone.”
A few years following the incident, Pherene found that Helena had been imprisoned. However, Pherene was forbidden from visiting her. Sitting and doing nothing had never been in Pherene’s nature. When she was able, she would secretly visit Helena and bring her nourishment; what she was being fed was nothing to be living on. This went on for about three months before the king found out. Enraged, he had Helena executed. Ever since then, Pherene has been bitter and resentful. And, in order to protect her sanity, she refrains from getting to close to anyone, in fear of them being executed. The only people she truly cares for are her sisters. As for her brother, she is rather indifferent. Pherene doesn’t care much for anyone beyond herself. So, all of the political hoopla that’s going on at the present is only inconveniencing and she doesn’t wish to take a side. She is rough around the edges and anything but refined – except for when it conveniences her. Taking after her mother, Pherene is known for her sass, independence, and love of the lavish luxuries. Pherene’s favorite pastime is disgruntling anyone that will allow it.
